Mate is a beverage that has been enjoyed in South America for hundreds of years. It is a great stimulating alternative to coffee as it has natural caffeine that provides energy but no jitteriness or crash. It has an herbal grassy taste not unlike green tea. Mixes well with fruit teas.
Processing: Once the yerba mate tree is fully mature (4-5 years), the leaves are harvested, set to dry near a heat source for a certain time and then cut and crushed. These “toasted mate” leaves are now aged for a minimum of 6 months to two years and then milled and packaged.
