April Newsletter | Soothing Gentle Stomach
Posted by LINDSAY SKEDGELL
April reminds us to be gentle.
It’s a time of renewal, Spring, the shifting transition from Winter into warmer months. Our stomachs wake up with aid from bitter and stimulating herbs that help us to better digest. As this time of year calls for companions in digestion, the herbs that help support our stomachs rise out of the soil.
Our tea of the month is Gentle Stomach, a mild but rounded flavor that highlights aromas of anise, fennel, and cumin. This Open Door formulated herbal tea blend is a perfect companion for sensitive stomachs and digestion as it nurtures and balances the digestive system. Gentle Stomach may even help to ease symptoms caused by inflammatory conditions such as IBS and acid reflux. Chamomile, fennel, anise, tulsi, cumin, cinnamon, licorice and calendula create a caffeine free blend filled with harmony and brightness.
Bitter herbs play an important role in the digestive process. While our diets used to incorporate many bitter plants, the introduction of agriculture eliminated bitterness in favor of tastiness. Bitterness was bred out of what we eat as coffee remains to be one of the only bitter foods left in our diets. Herbs found in Gentle Stomach such as chamomile, fennel, and licorice, are often used in the formulation of herbal digestive bitters. Taken before or after a meal, herbal bitters tell the digestive system to wake up, triggering powerful digestive juices that aid in digestion.
For the month of April we wish you gentleness and calm, that Gentle Stomach not only soothes your stomach, but warms your soul.
